Education Reform
U.S. Department of Education
The children of South Carolina deserve an education that will adequately prepare them for the challenges they will face in the future. I supported the No Child Left Behind Act, the most ambitious education reform legislation in a generation, which passed by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 381-41.
I believe that money alone cannot guarantee every child the chance to learn and succeed. High standards, accountability for results, local control, and parental choice are essentials to this success. Federal funds for education should have one simple demand – get results.
The achievement gap between students – rich and poor, white and minority – must be closed. States must develop standards to ensure every child achieves at grade level. Every classroom must have a highly qualified teacher. Parents must be informed and involved in their child’s education.
