Make College Affordable: America's Students and Families Deserve Better
Despite the critical need to boost affordable college opportunities in order to ensure America’s security and global competitiveness, in early 2006 the Republican-majority Congress cut $12 billion from the federal student aid programs, putting college further out of reach.
Democrats have a different idea. We introduced legislation to cut interest rates on student and parent loans in half, saving the typical student borrower $5,600 over the life of his or her loan.
It is time for Congress and the administration to listen to students and parents. Take a minute to read testimony submitted below by students, parents, community members and experts about the importance of an affordable college education. Then be sure to see how much a Democratic plan could save you in loan interest with our Student Loan Calculator.
