Letters:

June 19, 2006: Joined a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff requesting that he grant "deferred action" status to the McAllister Family.

Cosponsored legislation:

H.Res. 733, which expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that there should be established an Irish-American Heritage Month.

H.Res. 734, which calls on the Government of the United Kingdom to immediately establish a full, independent, public judicial inquiry into the murder of Northern Ireland defense attorney Pat Finucane, as recommended by international Judge Peter Cory as part of the Weston Park agreement and a way forward for the Northern Ireland Peace Process.

H. J. Res. 6, which recognized Commodore John Barry as the first flag officer of the United States Navy (John Barry, American merchant marine captain and native of County Wexford, Ireland, volunteered his services to the Continental Navy and was assigned by the Continental Congress as Captain of the Lexington, taking command of that vessel on March 14, 1776, and soon afterward gave to American liberty its first victory at sea with the capture of the Royal Navy sloop Edward).

H.R. 470, the “Northern Ireland Fair Employment Practices Act of 1995,” which prohibits an article from being imported into the United States from Northern Ireland unless documentation is presented at the time of entry indicating that the enterprise which manufactured or assembled such article complied at the time of manufacture with certain fair employment principles (such as freedom from religious discrimination). Bases such principles on the MacBride Principles, a nine-point set of guidelines for fair employment in Northern Ireland.
