Congressman Pearce: “Senior Citizen Drug Discounts Begin Today”
Pearce to Host Medicare Drug Discount Card Open House

Washington, Jun 2, 2004 - U.S. Representative Steve Pearce (R-NM) today announced his staff is hosting a one-stop information session next Monday for Dona Ana County senior citizens to learn more about the new Medicare-approved Prescription Drug Discount Cards that started yesterday, June 1, 2004.

“The more senior citizens and their families learn about the new Medicare law and its new benefits, the better off they will be in meeting their individual health care needs,” he said. Pearce’s staff will be on hand to help senior citizens determine which Medicare-approved Drug Discount Card would be best for them. A representative from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services will also be on hand to help answer Medicare-related questions.

“No longer will a senior citizen be forced to pay full retail for their life-saving drugs if they don’t choose to do so; and, the results will show in their pocketbook. For example, with these new Medicare-approved drug discounts taking affect today, seniors can possibly save up to 20-percent on brand-name drugs, up to 40-percent on generics, and in some cases as much as 60-percent on their mail-order prescriptions,” Pearce said.

“The beginning of these prescription drug discount cards is a positive step forward,” Pearce concluded.
