Rep. Pearce Highlights 1,200 New Jobs Created in New Mexico in June

Washington, Jul 22, 2004 - U.S. Representative Steve Pearce (R–NM) touted the Department of Labor’s announcement that 1,200 new jobs were created in New Mexico in June, keeping the unemployment rate below the national average at 5.5 percent. Pearce also said 17,000 new jobs were created in the state since this time last year.

Among the greatest gains in New Mexico jobs for June were in health and education services.

"Tax relief enacted last year directly helped 540,000 families in New Mexico, fueling this economic expansion," said Rep. Pearce. "People are settling into new jobs and beginning to find more secure financial footing as their pay their mortgage, gas and grocery bills."

"This is good news for the workers of New Mexico and the rest of America. The tax relief we enacted last year is now yielding results through rapid economic growth and job creation."

Overall, the U.S. economy has added more than 1.4 million jobs since last summer, according to the Department of Labor, with 10 straight months of job gains.
The nation's unemployment rate has also dropped from 6.3 percent in June 2003 to 5.6 percent in June 2004, a level that is below the average unemployment rate for the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

In the past three quarters, economic growth has averaged 5.5 percent — the fastest rate in two decades. After tax incomes are up by 11% since December 2000 and household wealth is near an all time high.
