Pearce Votes to Continue America’s Critical Mission in Iraq
“We must not abandon this central mission in the War on Terror. Our troops are watching to see if we truly believe in victory – and they deserve our unqualified support for their mission”

Washington, D.C., Nov 18, 2005 - U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce tonight joined an overwhelming 403 to 3 majority of the U.S. House of Representatives in rejecting H.Res. 571, a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

“Tonight’s vote placed some members of the House on record regarding whether they truly believe what their rhetoric implies – that American troops should cut and run from Iraq,” Rep. Pearce said. “Responsible leaders know that we must not abandon this central mission in the War on Terror.

“Our troops have sacrificed heroically to liberate 26 million men, women, and children from Saddam Hussein’s torture chambers, rape rooms, and children’s prisons. Now, following two successful democratic elections and the approval of a constitution, we stand at the precipice of creating a new arsenal of freedom in the Cradle of Civilization. The only enemy that can defeat us is our own loss of will.

“Our troops are watching to see if we truly believe in victory – and they deserve our unqualified support for their mission. Hopefully, tonight’s vote has sent them precisely that message.”
