PEARCE–WILSON EFFORTS SAVE STEALTH FIGHTERS
House Bill restores funding for F–117’s

Washington, Jun 21, 2004 - On Wednesday, June 16, 2004, the House Appropriations Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2005 Defense Appropriations bill which restores funding for the current fleet of F–117 Stealth Fighters stationed at Holloman Air Force Base.

Earlier this year, in response to the Air Force’s plans to retire 10 aircraft, Congressman Steve Pearce and Congresswoman Heather Wilson urged the House Appropriations Committee to restore full funding for the fleet.

“Holloman is critical to national security and the F–117’s have proven to be central in the Global War on Terror. The F–117 is the only Stealth fighter in the world, and the only Stealth squadron in the world is at Holloman,” Pearce said.

“I am delighted the committee agreed with our assessment about the importance of these aircraft and restored funding,” Wilson added.

In addition, the legislation provides an additional $9.8 million for modernization upgrades for 10 aircraft.

The full House of Representatives is expected to consider the legislation as early as next week.
