Message of the Week from Chairman SantorumBudget Deficit Falling Faster Than Expected The Treasury Department announced that we reduced the budget deficit to $248 billion in fiscal year 2006, cutting the deficit in half three years ahead of schedule. This expedited progress toward balancing the budget is due to Republican pro-growth tax relief policies that have strengthened the economy and produced record tax receipts that cut the deficit. Congress needs to keep taxes low in order to sustain economic growth, balance the budget, and reduce the cost of living for America’s hard-working families.
