Capitol Hill Update – June 10, 2005

Washington, Jun 9 -

Here is the latest news and information from Congressman Jim Gerlach:

UPS ride-along kicks off National Safety Month

Congressman Jim Gerlach visited the West Goshen UPS facility today to mark both the beginning of June as National Safety Month 2005 and to congratulate employees there with achieving an exceptional safety achievement: 50,000 safe workdays.

“The milestone the employees here have achieved is beyond impressive and deserves recognition,” Rep. Gerlach said. “I’m also happy to congratulate UPS drivers Bob Longacre and Bill Melnyk for their inclusion this year in the UPS Circle of Honor. The Circle of Honor is the highest level of driving recognition for UPS drivers, honoring those individuals who have demonstrated their safety skills by achieving 25 years of safe driving.”

After visiting the West Goshen facility, Congressman Gerlach joined a UPS driver making morning deliveries to local businesses in the 6th Congressional District. The delivery run ended with a visit to the Clemens Market in the Suburbia Shopping Center on Route 100 in North Coventry. At the grocery store, Congressman Gerlach met with the employees at the UPS store there and also with Clemens Markets CEO Jack Clemens.

“UPS is committed to providing a safe work environment for all of our employees, and we are excited to have Congressman Jim Gerlach kick off National Safety Month at our West Chester facility,” said Marvin Stewart, UPS Community Relations Manager.

National Safety Month is sponsored by the National Safety Council. Visit the Council’s Web site at www.nsc.org/nsm/ for more information on National Safety Month 2005.
