Gerlach Honors Soldiers’ Husbands and Wives on Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Washington, May 6 -

Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, and Congressman Gerlach’s thoughts are with them as they continue to hold down the fort on the home front while their husbands and wives are doing the important work of fighting the War on Terror.

“One of the toughest jobs in America is being the spouse of a man or woman in uniform,” said Congressman Gerlach. “While their dearest loved ones are risking their lives protecting freedom around the world, these stalwart men and women are left to hold their families together until their spouse arrives home.”

“While our military provides a wonderful support network and experienced military spouses are always there to help their younger counterparts, there is always more that can be done. We all can start by remembering and thanking them today.”

“Military Spouse Appreciation Day falls just before Mothers Day. With that in mind, let us all keep our military mothers and wives at the forefront of our thoughts, and share in their prayers for the safe return of their husbands and sons.”

President Ronald Reagan proclaimed Military Spouse Appreciation Day in 1984. The official celebration date has been designated as the Friday before Mother's Day each year.
