One of DeFazio's proudest accomplishments is the more than $260,000 in after-tax salary he has used to fund both scholarship contributions and to reduce the national debt. By the end of the year, DeFazio will have returned more than $194,597 to fund 157 individual scholarships. His scholarships for displaced Oregon workers are available at five southwestern Oregon community colleges. DeFazio funds the scholarships out of the congressional pay raises he does not accept.
