The Responsible Education About Life (REAL) Act will create a grant program administered by the Department of Health and Human Services that allows states to implement a comprehensive approach to sex education that includes information about both contraception and abstinence. The REAL Act would authorize $206 million per year in federal funds to states for comprehensive sex education.

H.R. 1410, the, the Menopausal Replacement Therapy (MRT)Alternative Treatment Fairness Act. This bill would provide guaranteed coverage of all treatments, both prescription and alternative, for menopausal symptoms and related conditions under: 1) Medicare and Medicaid; 2) all other Federal health insurance programs (VA, DoD/TRICARE, FEHBP), and 3) group and individual health insurance plans. The bill requires private insurance companies to cover all prescription MRT therapies providing that they provide prescription drug coverage generally and requires coverage of all therapies which have been proven in peer-reviewed scientific studies if they are provided by a State licensed, certified, or accredited health care provider.

H.R. 1309, the One Strike and You’re Out Act, would revise the current one-strike policy exercised by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The one-strike and you’re out policy (Public Law 101-625), provides authority to public housing authorities management and HUD Field Offices to develop and enforce stricter screening and eviction policies as a part of their anti-drug and anti-crime initiatives. This policy cripples protections for innocent family members and tenants who depend on public housing but may have a relative or guest that commits a crime.
