MILAN, MO – U.S. Senator Kit Bond today announced that he secured $1.3 million in federal funds for a critical water treatment project in Milan, Missouri.

"Clean water is critical to the health of the environment and economy. I am committed to improving the water quality in Missouri's communities and will continue to deliver federal funds for these important efforts," said Senator Kit Bond. "Today's funds will go a long way in meeting Milan's water needs. I will continue to work with the community leaders in our efforts to improve the quality of life for Milan’s families."

As chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development and Independent Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Bond secured these funds in the fiscal year 2005 spending bill. The spending bill passed the Senate Appropriations Committee last night. Before being signed into law the bill must be passed by the full U.S. Senate and reconciled with the House of Representatives' bill.

The Green Hills Regional Planning Commission in Putnam County will receive $1.3125 million in federal money for the Milan Water Quality Treatment Project. These dollars will provide critical upgrades to the water treatment plant in Milan.

This project will enhance the water quality of our region and the people of North Central Missouri appreciate Senator Bonds efforts."
