BOND ANNOUNCES $98 MILLION IN HOUSING FUNDS TO HELP LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN MISSOURI

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Kit Bond today announced that Missouri will receive more than $98 million in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
“These programs can make a real difference,” said Bond, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds HUD. “ I believe everyone deserves safe and affordable housing and those who are less fortunate should receive the help they need.”
The following Missouri areas will receive $98,606,802 in HUD funds:
Kansas City will receive $15,283,534 for the following programs:
* Community Development Block Grant $10,741,000
* Emergency Shelter Grants $398,752
* HOME Investment Partnership Program $3,165,782
* Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS $978,000
The Missouri State Program will receive $47,582,434 for the following programs: * Community Development Block Grant $28,404,120
* Emergency Shelter Grants $1,362,331
* HOME Investment Partnership Program $17,319,983
* Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS $496,000
St. Louis will receive $31,743,878 for the following programs:
* Community Development Block Grant $24,898,000
* Emergency Shelter Grants $927,837
* HOME Investment Partnership Program $4,701,041
* Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS $1,217,000
St. Louis County will receive $10,244,956 for the following programs: * Community Development Block Grant $6,480,000
* Emergency Shelter Grants $245,192 * HOME Investment Partnership Program $3,519,764
St. Peters City will receive $232,000 for the Community Development Block Grant.
HUD's Community Development Block Grant funds are used to provide housing and expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income families through a number of activities such as buying property; construction/reconstruction of streets, water and sewer facilities, neighborhood centers, recreation facilities; demolition; rehabilitation of public and private buildings; and public services. The HOME Investment Partnership Program funds the building, buying and rehabilitation of affordable housing for rent or home ownership and provides direct rental assistance to low-income people.
