MONETT, MO - Senator Kit Bond today announced that he will secure $1.5 million for a multi-year wastewater treatment facility expansion for the city of Monett. Bond was joined by Mayor Jerry Fulp and community leaders.

“These dollars will go a long way in meeting the community’s water needs,” said Bond. “I have appreciated working with Monett’s community leaders, together we will continue our commitment to improving the quality of life for Monett’s families.”

As ranking member of the Senate VA/HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, Bond secured these funds in the fiscal year 2003 VA/HUD & Independent Agencies Appropriations bill. The funding request has passed the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill still awaits final passage in the Senate.

The Monett community has experienced tremendous growth recently, both industrial and residential, a trend which promises to continue in the next five years. In light of the community’s rapid growth, the local wastewater plant is in need of an upgrade.

The $1.5 million in federal dollars Bond sought will help fund a major expansion project of Monett's wastewater treatment plant. This expansion will provide adequate capacity to allow for the City’s continued growth. Funds will also address environmental concerns associated with nutrient wastes washing into the Shoal Creek basin.

Bond served Missouri twice as Governor and now continues his service to Missourians in the United States Senate.
