WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Kit Bond today announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved more than $500,000 for housing needs across the state.
“With these dollars, local communities can reach out to those most in need. This program will not only provide adequate housing, but also help families focus on getting good jobs,” said Bond who has worked on housing issues since his time as Missouri’s Governor and is the ranking member on the Senate Appropriations Committee that funds HUD.
HUD is sending Missouri $580,859 in Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) grants. The HCV FSS program works with local communities in helping low-income families. HCV FSS encourages the use of rental assistance with public and private resources and encourage economic self-sufficiency for participants. Program coordinators assures the program participants are aware of and receive necessary supportive services to help them towards the goal of self sufficiency. As a result of the HCV FSS program, a number of families have achieved stable, well-paid employment, which has made it possible for them to become homeowners.
