WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Kit Bond today announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved more than $11 million in federal dollars for Missouri water and environmental programs.

“Missouri families depend upon clean, safe water to drink. All of us want to preserve our state’s precious rivers, streams and lakes,” said Bond the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee that funds the EPA. “I will continue to work hard to guarantee the state receives its fair share of federal funds to clean and protect Missouri waters.”

The $11,472,900 in federal dollars from the EPA includes the following projects:

* $10,472,900 to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The grant money will be used to fund infrastructure upgrades and set-aside funds for the Public Water System Safety program, source water protection and prevention programs through the Missouri Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund.

* $1,000,000 to the University of Missouri. The grant money will be used for continued farm and watershed modeling; expanded farm and watershed level projects; continued agro-foresty work; monitoring to identify dominant sources of fecal coliforms; and identification of economic information to better allocate the burdens of water impairment. Four projects in particular will be focused on -- Shoal Creek in Barry and Lawrence Counties Long Branch Lake, Miami Creek in Bates County and watersheds in Montgomery County.

Kit Bond served Missouri twice as Governor and now continues his service to Missourians in the United States Senate.
