ST. LOUIS - Senator Kit Bond today advised Missourians when to expect their tax rebate checks from the federal government. Next week, the U.S. Treasury will begin printing and mailing the estimated 1.8 million checks to be sent to Missouri taxpayers. This tax rebate for Missourians, signed into law by President Bush June 7th, will total approximately $771 million.

Bond said, “This tax rebate is a step in the right direction, both increasing the financial freedom of Missouri and giving the American economy a boost to lift it out of the downturn that began last fall.”

Senator Bond, a strong advocate for tax relief, informed Missourians who paid income taxes last year, what the rebate meant for them: Missourians who are not married will receive up to $300, depending on how much in taxes they paid last year. Married couples will receive up to $600.

This coming Monday, July 16th, Missourians will begin receiving letters from the U.S. Treasury Department detailing how much of a tax rebate they are likely to receive. The actual checks will begin to be mailed on July 23rd. The last of the checks will be mailed at the end of September. The last two digits of the taxpayers’ social security number determine when a taxpayer will receive their check. Rebate checks go to those who paid taxes in 2000. Also, the U.S. Treasury Department will send letters to those who will not receive a tax rebate because they paid no taxes in 2000.

“Missouri families will be able use this money to lower their own personal debt, invest, save or spend as they see fit,” said Bond.
