Hoyer Succeeds in Funding Firefighter Program
WASHINGTON - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Congressman Curt Weldon (R-PA), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus last night successfully added an amendment to the 2005 Homeland Security Appropriations bill to provide $50 million in funding for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Firefighters (SAFER) Program. Congressman Hoyer is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.

Hoyer Honors Prince George's County
LAUREL, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer visited the U.S. Secret Service James J. Rowley Training Center today to present awards to firefighters from throughout Prince George's County for their service to the U.S. Secret Service Training Facility located in Laurel, and to pay tribute to them for fighting a major fire at the complex on January 18, 2004.

Hoyer Pays Tribute to Law Enforcement

Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week. Hoyer Urges Support for Fire Service in Capitol Hill Testimony
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer urged the House Science Committee in testimony today to help the fire service and EMS communities by supporting HR 4107, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Reauthorization Act. As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Hoyer helped draft this legislation which extends the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program through fiscal year 2007.

Hoyer Leads Effort to Hire 75,000 Firefighters
WASHINGTON, DC - A group of 90 U.S. Representatives, led by Congressman Steny Hoyer, sent a letter this week to the Chairmen and Ranking members of the Appropriations Committee and the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee urging them to include funding in the FY 2005 Homeland Security Appropriations bill for fire fighter staffing.

Hoyer Joins Fire Officials to Announce New Legislation to Reauthorize Federal Fire Grant Program
LAPLATA - Congressman Steny Hoyer joined Steve Edwards from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, Lynn Gilroy, President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Tom Mattingly, St. Mary’s County Commissioner and past president of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association, local elected officials, and Firefighters and EMS Personnel today to announce the introduction of legislation to reauthorize the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Rep. Hoyer has been very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments buy equipment and provide adequate training.
