September 14, 2005 Reid Commends Bipartisan Medicaid BillStatement of Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid on the Finance Committee Package to Provide Health Care to Katrina Survivors.
“I commend my Senate colleagues for negotiating a bipartisan bill to provide full federal funding for health care coverage of Hurricane Katrina survivors without the need for further bureaucracy or red tape. Enactment of the bipartisan Finance Committee package would ensure that these victims have access to the care they need wherever they are through the Medicaid program. I call upon Senator Frist to take up this package immediately and for the House to follow the Senate’s lead and resist inserting extraneous provisions. While much more remains to be done to address the needs of survivors and the region, there is no reason for further delay.”
