July 18, 2005 Reid: President Must Unite the CountrySenator Calls on President to Nominate a Consensus Candidate
Washington, DC - “With one nominee to select, President Bush cannot be all things to all people. He must make a choice: he can either pick a nominee to appease his Right-Wing base, or he can choose someone who will respect the rights and freedoms of all Americans.
“The president is absolutely correct when he says it is up to him to nominate someone for the Court and that is why it is ultimately up to him to bring Americans together by choosing a consensus nominee. The Senate has the final say on whether the President’s nominee is confirmed, but the President has the power right now to pick a nominee who will unite America.”
