June 17, 2005 Reid statement on three Nevadans killed in Iraq this weekWASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Harry Reid released the following statement:
“It has been a hard week for Nevada as three of our sons have fallen. The war in Iraq has hit us close to home. Army Corporal Stanley Lapinski, Marine Corporal Jesse Jaime and Army National Guard Specialist Anthony S. Cometa each gave the ultimate sacrifice. As Nevadans we mourn their loss and honor their sacrifice, and as a country we are indebted to them in a way that we can never repay. Just a few months ago, I spent a day with the Army National Guard 1864th Company at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and with Marines from Nevada stationed in Iraq. I was impressed with their sense of duty and patriotism, and I was overwhelmed with pride at the Nevadans serving in our military. While words cannot accurately express this loss, my heart and prayers go out to the families and friends of these brave and selfless young men.”
