Reid Recommends Wellinghoff for FERC Position

Las Vegan advanced as Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner

Washington, D.C. – Fulfilling his right as Senate Democratic Leader, Nevada Senator Harry Reid has recommended Jon Wellinghoff for the position of Democratic Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

“Jon’s long and distinguished career in energy and consumer regulatory matters will make him an excellent asset to FERC as it conducts its important work,” said Reid.

Wellinghoff is currently a shareholder in the law firm of Beckley Singleton in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he specializes in energy and consumer law. Prior to his current position, he served Nevadans as Chief of the District Attorney’s Consumer Fraud Division. Later, he served two terms as Nevada’s first Consumer Advocate, securing his first appointment from a Democratic Attorney General and his second from a Republican Attorney General. In the beginning of his career, he served as a staff attorney with the Federal Trade Commission and as staff counsel to the Nevada Public Utilities Commission.

FERC is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. FERC also regulates natural gas and hydropower projects.
