Federal Dollars Announced to Help Vicitims of Rape and Abuse (June 1)
Norristown -- Norristown -- Congressman Jim Gerlach is joined here by Mary Onama, the Ex Dir. of the Victims Service Center of Montgomery County. The Center received a $347,632 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to continue funding a four county (Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, and Chester Counties) collaborative effort to provide civil legal services to rape, sexual assault and stalking victims through the Crime Victim’s Law Project. The funding will be used to: hire new staff to review more cases; increase outreach and legal services to minority and immigrant populations; and collaborate with local law schools to expand an existing legal internship program. This program is in its 5th year and for the first four years the project was administered by Bucks County. The county organizations have agreed to rotate responsibility for administration of the grant. This grant will be used over the course of two years.
