Energy Independence Discussion in Lower Merion (Jan. 28)
Bryn Mawr -- Congressman Jim Gerlach talked to members of the environmental organization Penn Environment today in the cafeteria of Harcum College in Bryn Mawr about legislation he introduced in December that will take practical and achievable steps toward increasing the use of “flexible fuels” in our society that will in turn lessen our nation’s reliance on foreign sources of energy. Our nation consumes roughly a quarter of the world’s oil supply, importing most of that from countries throughout the world that are either unstable or traditionally at odds with the United States. Drawing upon input from members of the Set America Free Coalition, the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Natural Resources Defense Council, Congressman Gerlach’s legislation, the Future Fuels Act, will help reduce our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels for transportation while taking some simple steps to diversify not only how we fuel our cars, but also our economy for generations to come.
