EMERSON - BOND ANNOUNCE TRANSPORTATION AWARD FOR BUS PROGRAM

Tuesday, September 23, 2003

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) and Senator Kit Bond today announced $4.6 million in transportation awards will be allocated to Missouri bus and bus-related programs in the 8th District.

"Missourians rely on buses and vans to commute to work, travel to school, and get around without the use of a car. These funds will assist Southern Missouri in operating programs vital to transportation in our communities. Buses and vans are essential to senior citizens who rely on bus transportation to shop for groceries, to get their prescriptions filled at the pharmacy, and to see their doctors. This type of program is a continuing priority for Sen. Bond and me," Emerson said.

"These dollars are great news for the senior citizens, disabled and other folks in Southeast Missouri who depend on public transportation to reach essential services," said U.S. Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond (MO). "Congresswoman Emerson and I will both continue our efforts to direct more federal funds to Southeast Missouri."

The earmark provides nearly $2 million for Missouri Bus and Bus Facilities in Dunklin County (two replacement vans), the City of Houston, Southeast Missouri Transportation Service, and Scott County (two replacement vans). Some of the funds will also be allotted to SE Missouri State University to assist in the construction of an intermodal center in Cape Girardeau. Stoddard County will receive an earmark of $29,510 for one replacement van.
