WYDEN TOUTS TAX SIMPLIFICATION AT IRS HEADQUARTERS

January 2006

Above and Below: Ron delivers a speech on "the need for comprehensive tax reform to make the tax code simpler for all Americans."

Washington, DC- Ron spoke at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in downtown Washington about the Fair Flat Tax Act of 2005, which he introduced late last year. His proposal addresses the need for comprehensive tax reform and makes the tax code simpler for all Americans. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) has announced plans to introduce companion legislation in the House of Representatives. Their plan calls for creating a simplified tax code to benefit middle-income Americans, collapsing the current six tax brackets into three, and moving to a simple, 30-line, one-page 1040 tax form.

Wyden spoke about his tax reform proposal surrounded by the tens of thousands of pages that make up the current U.S. tax code.
