WYDEN, SMITH ANNOUNCE MORE
THAN
$2.2 MILLION FOR HEAD START PROJECTS
Mid-Columbia Children’s Council
to Receive Federal Grant
February 18, 2004
Washington, D.C. – U.S.
Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) today announced
that Mid-Columbia Children’s Council, Inc. in Hood River
will be awarded $2,267,792 for Head Start projects. Head Start
programs serve children from birth to age five and prepare them
for successful educational careers. Head Start offers assistance
with early childhood development, medical and dental care, and
parental involvement.
“Head Start programs help
put Oregon kids on the right track for life,” said Wyden.
“Funding proven educational programs like this one is the
right way to bring a brighter future to children and families
across our state.”
“Head Start is a place
where Oregon’s kids learn essential life skills,”
said Smith. “For Hood River, that translates into better
students and eventually better neighbors.”
This grant is being awarded
by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
