Wyden, Smith Announce Nearly $11 Million
for Public Housing
HUD Grants Will Allow For Housing Modernization,
Improvements

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden
(D-Ore.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) today announced that Oregon
will receive $10.8 million in grants from the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grants are being
awarded through HUD’s Fiscal Year 2003 Capital Fund Program,
which awards grants to public housing agencies for housing modernization
and improvements.
“Revitalizing affordable housing will allow
Oregonians to live better and raise healthier, happier families,”
said Wyden. “Maintaining a good quality of life and ensuring
affordable housing go hand in hand.”
“Community development and stability depends
upon affordable housing,” said Smith. “These grants
help the hardworking families in Oregon enjoy the tremendous
benefits associated with having a good place to live.”
