WASHINGTON, DC- Today Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.)
and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) announced that the Port of Hood River
will receive a $1,341,225 from the U.S. Department of Transportation
for renovations to the Hood River Interstate Bridge.
“Improving our road ways and bridges promotes
Oregon commerce and livability,” said Smith. “The
Hood River Bridge serves as an important economic link between
Oregon and Washington, and maintaining the bridge is a definite
priority.”
“By investing in renovations to the Hood
River Bridge, these funds will help preserve the economic and
scenic benefits of this vital link between Oregon and Washington,”
said Wyden.
The Port of Hood River will use the grant to
defray estimated $10 million cost of redecking and renovating
the Hood River/White Salmon Bridge and toll plaza. The metal
deck of the Bridge is well past its useful life of 30 years;
the current deck was installed in 1951.
