Pryce: Secure Fence Act Will Strengthen Border Security and Help Keep our Nation Safe
|
WASHINGTON October 26
House Republican Conference Chairman Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio) today said the Secure Fence Act, which the president signed today, will strengthen security along our nation’s borders and help prevent illegal entries into the United States.
“Securing our borders is one of the most important things we can do to strengthen our national security and prevent another 9/11,” Pryce said. “The Secure Fence Act will help prevent illegal entry into our country by increasing physical barriers at our nation’s borders and deploying a ‘virtual fence’ of security technology. Strengthening border security should be an issue where Republicans and Democrats agree, but the vote on the Secure Fence Act again showed that House Democrats don’t take border security seriously. More than two out of three Democrats in the House voted against this important measure to improve security along our borders. House Republicans have demonstrated a commitment to shore up weaknesses along our border and keep our nation secure, and the Secure Fence Act is another important step in that process.”
The Secure Fence Act of 2006 provides for the construction of more than 700 miles of fencing at critical points along our southwest border. The legislation also requires the Department of Homeland Security to establish full operational control of our borders by deploying a “virtual fence” of security technology, including cameras, ground sensors, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
