A year ago, the House unveiled a Jobs and Growth plan. A plan that was intended to be jumper cables and gasoline for America's economic engine. A plan that would provide a stimulus-something that would boost investor confidence, increase Americans' income and help businesses move out of the red.
We acted and passed this plan. And because we acted, families have more money in their paychecks. Because we acted more Americans are working. Because we acted the deficit is less than what it would be otherwise.
Good governing is about making tough choices. The choices no one notices, much less gives you credit for are the choices that stop bad situations from becoming worse. With an inherited recession, an attack on American soil, and an international war against terror, Republicans proved to be that party of action-the party willing to make the tough choices.
And now we must continue. We must grow our economy and not government by maintaining fiscal discipline and guarding against the proposed tax hikes of our Democrat colleagues. We must continue to be the party of solutions.
