Dreier Honored By City of Hope with Inaugural President’s Award

August 24 , 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David Dreier received the Duarte, CA based City of Hope’s inaugural President’s Award earlier this week. The award was established to recognize outstanding commitment to the advancement of science and care for patients with cancer.

“City of Hope is so aptly named because it has provided help and hope to cancer patients and their families for so many years,” Dreier said. “Their work has been and continues to be both innovative and effective. The advancements we’ve seen in recent years demonstrates the importance of continued support for the research done at the City of Hope. While we may not have reached a cure yet, we are ever closer thanks to the work of the people at City of Hope. I am a proud supporter of this outstanding research and treatment institution and extremely grateful for this honor.”

“City of Hope is honored to present Congressman Dreier with our inaugural President’s Award in recognition of his longtime commitment to the advancement of science and the care of patients with cancer,” said Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer, City of Hope. “Congressman Dreier has played a key leadership role in advancing biomedical research, which is essential to transforming the health of both California and the nation.”

City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the highest honor bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, City of Hope’s research and treatment protocols impact care throughout the nation. Founded in 1913, City of Hope is a pioneer in the fields of bone marrow transplantation and genetics and shares its scientific knowledge with medical centers locally and globally, helping patients battling serious diseases.

Dreier is a longstanding supporter of biomedical research and the City of Hope’s major scientific initiatives, including molecular medicine, islet cell isolation and transplantation for treatment of diabetes, and biomedical research imaging.
