Whitfield Announces $337,789 Grant for Madisonville Community College
WASHINGTON, July 26 - U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Wednesday announced that the Madisonville Community College will receive a $337,789 grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The grant is administered by the TRIO Talent Search Program. According to the Department of Education, the Talent Search Program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
The Talent Search Program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary school of their choice. The program also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to reenter the educational system and complete their education.
"I am pleased that the Madisonville Community College has been awarded these funds. This TRIO grant will create new opportunities in higher education for many disadvantaged youth in our area," said Whitfield. "I have been a strong supporter of the TRIO programs during my tenure in Congress, and I will continue to support increased funding for these worthwhile and effective programs."
