Buyer to Lead Congressional Delegation to Normandy, France, in honor of fallen soldiers and 60th Anniversary of Victory In Europe

Washington DC- Yesterday, Chairman Steve Buyer joined leadership and fellow members of Congress on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol to recognize the sacrifice of our men and women in military uniform who paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom. On hand were veterans of previous wars, many of whom served in World War II. Speaking at the event were Speaker Dennis Hastert (IL-14), Majority Leader Tom Delay (TX-22), Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (OH-15), Majority Whip Roy Blunt (MO-07), and Chairman Steve Buyer.

On Memorial Day, we remember those souls—fathers, sons, mothers, daughters—who came from across our country and from all walks of life to selflessly offer their service. Today we honor those who lost their life in service to preserve our liberties,” Chairman Buyer said.

This weekend the Hoosier Congressman will be leading a congressional delegation to Normandy, France to honor our fallen warriors from World War II. Congressman Buyer will speak at the Memorial Day Service and lay a wreath at the Normandy American Cemetery and Suresnes American Cemetery.

Picture of Chairman Steve Buyer and Joe Minarick.“This is also a special month that marks the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. I have the opportunity along with Congressman Henry Brown to honor the men and women that served bravely on those beaches and throughout Europe. More than 4 million Americans served in our armed forces in the cauldron of Europe. Nearly 200,000 of them made the ultimate sacrifice there serving the cause of freedom. We honor the service and sacrifices made by them and many others throughout our nation’s history,” Chairman Buyer said.

Chairman Buyer is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and a Colonel in the Army Reserves.
