Older Americans Act

Bill Text for the Older Americans Act Amendments of 2006 (H.R. 6197)

Committee Report 109-493 to accompany the Senior Independence Act (H.R. 5293)

The Older Americans Act (OAA) is the major federal statute governing the organization and delivery of a wide array of social services for elderly Americans.  Since its inception in 1965, the Act has funded transportation, nutrition, and referral to home care, health, and other social services.  Nutrition services include the popular “Meals on Wheels” home delivery meal program and congregate meal programs, which serve larger groups in settings such as senior centers.

In the 109th Congress, the Education & the Workforce Committee will work to improve programs and services under the Older Americans Act through increased accountability and improved efforts to prevent elder abuse and enhance services that can improve the quality of life for aging Americans.
