Hoyer Congratulates Winner of Congressional Arts Competition

Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) congratulated Veronica Loveless today as the winner of the 5th Congressional District High School Congressional Arts Competition. Loveless visited the Capitol today to meet with Congressman Hoyer and she participated in events on Capitol Hill to recognize the talented young artists who won similar competitions in other Congressional districts. Veronica Loveless, 16, just completed her junior year at Grace Brethren Christian School.

Hoyer Gives Commencement Address at Anne Arundel Community College

Congressman Steny Hoyer gave the Commencement Address last night at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) where he congratulated the graduates and their families and spoke of the importance of lifelong learning in an age of rapid technological advancement, economic change and globalization. This morning, Rep. Hoyer also attended the U.S. Naval Academy Graduation ceremony in Annapolis. Congressman Hoyer has been a member of the Naval Academy Board of Visitors for the past 11 years.

Hoyer Votes to Increase Funds for Veterans

Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today in recognition of Memorial Day and to make note of a series of votes he supported last week that would have increased medical funding for veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserve. Congressman Hoyer will observe Memorial Day in Ridge in St. Mary’s County, Maryland and will give the keynote address at American Legion Post 255 during the Memorial Day ceremony.

Baby Boomers Could Go Bust Under Republican Social Security Privatization Proposals

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) made the following statement today after releasing a new report from the Joint Economic Committee with JEC Senior House Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY) and JEC Ranking Democrat Senator Jack Reed (RI). The report highlights the negative impact that Republican privatization and benefit cut proposals would have on workers aged 40-50.

Hoyer Secures Funds to Clean Up Anacostia River

Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2006 Energy and Water Appropriations bill last night which included, at the request of Congressman Hoyer, $400,000 to help clean up the Anacostia River, $240,000 more than was included in Fiscal Year 2005.

Hoyer Announces Federal Funds to Keep Baltimore Harbor Open for Business

Congressman Steny Hoyer, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and the only member from Maryland, today announced that the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2006 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill last night which included $15.2 million for Baltimore Harbor maintenance dredging and $13.4 for the Poplar Island Project. At Congressman Hoyer’s request, the federal funding for the Baltimore Harbor dredging was increased by $200,000 over last years funding.
