MECHANICSVILLE, MD - This morning, Congressman Steny Hoyer spoke to more than 200 4th and 5th graders at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School in St. Mary’s County. Rep. Hoyer was the keynote speaker at an assembly where the students learned about how laws are made and the legislative process. Congressman Hoyer visits the students at Lettie Marshall Dent on a yearly basis to teach our future leaders about the importance of the legislative process.

WHITE PLAINS, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today met with Charles County Health Officer, Dr. Chinnadurai Devadason (Dr. D), and more than 100 Charles County Public Health Department Employees to discuss with them the importance of investing in our public health. Rep. Hoyer met with the Health Department in recognition of National Public Health Week, observed this year from April 5 through April 11. Tuesday, April 06, 2004 Hoyer Joins Fire Officials to Announce New Legislation to Reauthorize Federal Fire Grant Program
LAPLATA - Congressman Steny Hoyer joined Steve Edwards from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, Lynn Gilroy, President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Tom Mattingly, St. Mary’s County Commissioner and past president of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association, local elected officials, and Firefighters and EMS Personnel today to announce the introduction of legislation to reauthorize the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Rep. Hoyer has been very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments buy equipment and provide adequate training.

ACCOKEEK, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined thousands of volunteers from throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to participate in the 16th Annual Potomac Watershed Clean-Up sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation which is located in Congressman Hoyer’s district. Rep. Hoyer joined the Executive Director of the Foundation on the banks of the Potomac in Accokeek to talk to volunteers and help cleanup debris along the river.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer announced today that the House of Representatives passed a bill which approved major funds to improve Prince George’s County’s transportation infrastructure. The funds were included in the Transportation Reauthorization bill which authorizes federal funding for transportation projects over the next six years.
