Money to Help Increase Safety and Equipment for Local Volunteer Firefighters
FISHKILL - U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly today announced that the Glenham Fire District will be receiving $63,602 in federal funding to help boost firefighter safety measures and fire operations.
“It is crucial that our first responders in Dutchess County have the resources they need, and it is our responsibility in Congress to provide the federal funding that helps them further improve their services and obtain the best equipment possible for emergencies,” Kelly said.
The federal funds will enable the Glenham Fire District to purchase new firefighting personal protective clothing for each of its members.
“Our Glenham volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, and this money will help keep them safe while they keep our communities safe,” Kelly said.
Kelly said the federal money has been obtained through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration.
“The Glenham Fire District is pleased to be a recipient of an award from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program,” said John Steele of the Glenham Fire District. “We believe it will be an invaluable asset providing for the personal protection and safety of the firefighters in the Glenham Fire District. We appreciate the efforts of our members of Congress and the Senate on behalf of the district and we look forward to continuation of this valuable program providing benefits to local fire departments.”
