WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly today announced that the Beekman Fire Company will receive $30,780 in federal funding for fire operations and firefighter safety.

 

“Local firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities, and it is crucial for our local first responders to have the resources they need,” Kelly said. “We must continue to ensure that our local fire companies have the funding they need to enhance their safety and perform their duties.”

 

The funding is being provided through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which awards one-year grants directly to local fire departments. The program is administered by the Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

 

“With these funds, our department will be able to provide much-needed pagers that allow our members to respond directly to the scene of an emergency, minimizing critical life-saving minutes,” said Greg Rayburn, Chief of the Beekman Fire Company. “Additionally, we will be able to provide two-way radios that will permit our members to work more safely and efficiently, protecting the lives of the firefighters and the public which we serve.”
