WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Sue Kelly today announced that the Chelsea Fire Department will be receiving $58,425 in federal funding to help boost local firefighter operations and safety measures.

 

The Chelsea Fire Department serves primarily residential areas in both the Town of Wappinger and the Town of Fishkill. The federal funds were secured through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and can be used for first responder training, safety equipment, or upgrades to local fire stations.
 
“This is an important return of federal money to our area to help support the efforts of local first responders as they serve and protect our neighborhoods in southern Dutchess County,” Kelly said.

 

“Congress needs to continue this positive commitment to providing the federal assistance necessary to help local fire departments improve their operations and obtain the best equipment possible to keep volunteer firefighters and local residents safe during emergencies.”
 
Congress annually funds the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by DHS’s Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration.
