Kelly Obtains $600,000 in Transportation Funding for Wappingers Falls
July 29, 2005

WAPPINGERS FALLS – U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly has lined up $600,000 in federal funding for the Village of Wappingers Falls along with $5.8 million in additional money for other Dutchess County transportation needs in legislation approved by the U.S. House of Representatives today.

As a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, Kelly successfully wrote provisions into the Transportation Equity Act that will bring federal funding directly to towns and villages in Dutchess County to help them improve their roads and infrastructure.

Kelly secured the $600,000 into the legislation for the Village of Wappingers Falls at the request of Village Mayor Cal Lawrence. The funding will be used to make significant road improvements to North Mesier Avenue.

“Day in and day out, we all depend upon well-paved roads and convenient travel access around the Village of Wappingers Falls and all of Dutchess County,” Kelly said. “This $600,000 in federal money will go directly to the Village to enhance North Mesier Avenue, and as always it has been very beneficial to partner with Mayor Lawrence and bring federal assistance into the Village to address a local need.”

Mayor Lawrence called the funding a “great help” for the Village of Wappingers Falls.

“These federal funds mean that we don’t have to spend our Village funds on this project,” Lawrence explained. “This is a great surprise. I have been talking with Congresswoman Kelly about this project and she has always been there for us. On behalf of the Village residents, I thank her for her support."
