Kelly Obtains More Than $1 Million for Road Improvements in East Fishkill
July 29, 2005

Congresswoman Secures Federal Money for Town in Transportation Equity Act

EAST FISHKILL – U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly has obtained $1.04 million in federal funds for street repairs and major road improvements in East Fishkill through legislation that gained final Congressional approval today.

Kelly obtained the money for East Fishkill in the Transportation Equity Act, which reauthorizes the federal aid surface transportation program through 2009. The U.S. House of Representatives originally approved the legislation and Kelly’s funding for East Fishkill on March 10. Congress today approved the final version of the Transportation Equity Act, which will now be signed into law by President Bush.

As a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, Kelly co-authored the Transportation Equity Act and successfully wrote provisions into the bill that will bring federal funding directly to town and villages in the Hudson Valley to help improve roads and transportation-related infrastructure.

Kelly obtained $640,000 in the legislation toward the construction of a new Hopewell Junction Bypass Road in East Fishkill, and $400,000 for improvements to Lake Walton Road and Robinson Lane at Route 376.

“Every day, we depend upon well-paved roads, congestion-free intersections, and safe sidewalks and crosswalks around southern Dutchess County,” Kelly said. “The money that I secured in this bill for East Fishkill will help make the necessary road improvements to alleviate traffic congestion on our secondary roads and make travel easier and safer for local residents.”
