Hoyer Looks Ahead with Indian Head Officials

After BRAC Successes, Hard Work Continues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Monday, September 19, 2005

INDIAN HEAD, MD – Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-05) met today with officials at Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center to discuss future steps for the base following successes in the current federal Base Realignment and Closure process (BRAC).

Congressman Hoyer met with top Indian Head officials including Captain Joseph Giaquinto and the Technology Management Team.

“I am very pleased with the results of the current BRAC process for Indian Head,” said Hoyer. “I believe that when the process is complete Indian Head will be in a very strong position to continue to thrive in the future. We will not rest on our laurels, however, and today’s meeting was part of our effort to continue to strengthen Indian Head and ensure its importance to the U.S. military in the 21st century.

“I am especially interested in focusing on Indian Head’s designation as the Center for Energetics by the Department of Defense and how to develop and expand that role,” added Hoyer.

The BRAC Commission sent their recommendations to President Bush on September 8th and late last week, he forwarded the list without changes to Congress for their consideration. Congress has 45 days to accept or reject the list in its entirety.
