Known for his leadership, tenacity and energetic style, Congressman Zach Wamp (R-TN3) serves with seniority as Tennessee’s only member of the Appropriations Committee, which funds all discretionary spending by the federal government.

Zach was elected by his colleagues to serve on the House Policy Committee where he helped develop our national energy policy. Congressman Wamp was appointed as Chairman of the House Policy Committee’s new Energy and Technology Subcommittee. Congressman Wamp’s "Entech" agenda will move America toward energy independence, securing our homeland while growing a manufacturing-driven, robust U.S. economy.

Congressman Wamp serves as the second ranking Republican on the Homeland Security and Interior subcommittees of Appropriations and is a senior member of the Energy and Water subcommittee, possibly the most important subcommittee in Congress for the State of Tennessee, because it funds all Oak Ridge operations as well as the replacement of the Chickamauga Lock on the Tennessee River. Wamp represents the premier multi-purpose laboratory in the United States, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with strong science and research missions from energy to homeland security. He also represents the Y-12 National Security Complex, responsible for the refurbishment of nuclear weapons, storage of nuclear material and prevention of the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

As the founder and current co-chairman of the Congressional Fitness Caucus, Zach is "leading by example" as he promotes healthier lifestyles for all citizens. In 2004, he launched "Tennessee on the Move" as a statewide program administered by the University of Tennessee to promote physical activity, proper nutrition and preventative healthcare.

He also serves as Co-Chairman of the 217 member Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Caucus working to promote legislation that secures America’s energy independence, advances energy efficient technologies and protects the environment by increasing our use of renewable energy sources.

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has appointed Zach to such diverse leadership roles as the Chaplain Selection Committee, the Youth Violence Working Group, the Speaker’s Task Force for a Drug Free America and the Helsinki Commission.

In previous Congresses, he has served as TVA Caucus chairman, on the Transportation Committee, the Science Committee, the Small Business Committee, the Steering Committee and the Military Construction Committee, among others.

Zach Wamp is well known as one of the most effective communicators in Congress. For three years, he was a regular panelist on "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer" and has appeared on NBC’s "Meet the Press," ABC’s "Nightline," MSNBC’s "Hardball with Chris Matthews," "Scarborough Country" and Fox News. He has been featured in Newsweek, US News and World Report, Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post and The New York Times.

In 2001, Congressman Wamp served as chairman of the National Prayer Breakfast and introduced President George W. Bush to the four thousand attendees and millions of television viewers around the world.

A Chattanooga native, Zach spent twelve years as a small businessman and commercial real estate broker before coming to Congress. He and his wife, Kim, have two teenage children and live in Chattanooga where they actively attend Red Bank Baptist Church.
