Located in the heart of the state, New York's 25th Congressional District stretches from the Greater Syracuse area in Central New York westward along the Lake Ontario coastline to Rochester's northeastern suburbs.

The district comprises all of Onondaga and Wayne Counties, the northernmost portion of Cayuga County, and the Monroe County towns of Webster, Penfield, and Irondequoit. Marked by tremendous natural beauty and significant water assets, the district is a blend of urban, suburban, and rural settings.

The district boasts of approximately 100 miles of Lake Ontario shoreline from Fair Haven in the east to the Genesee River in the west, as well as Oneida Lake, Onondaga Lake, and the easternmost Finger Lakes of Otisco and Skaneateles. The historic Erie Canal crosses through most of the district.

Parts of the district are heavily reliant on agriculture, still the state's number one industry, though certain sectors of the local economy are successfully transitioning to information- and knowledge-based manufacturing and research.

The region is home to several of the nation's best colleges, universities, and research institutions and is rich in history. In fact, the national suffragist movement and the Mormon Church have their roots in the region. The area remains the home of the Iroquois confederacy; the Onondaga Indian Nation is located in southern Onondaga County.

Nicknamed the "Salt City," Syracuse's founding was based on the salt industry and its location as a port on the Erie Canal and various trading crossroads. Rochester remains the corporate home of such international companies as Eastman Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch and Lomb. Today, district residents continue to enjoy a very strong quality of life.
