Upton to Join Local Officials to Break Ground for New Housing Development in Benton Harbor
Upton helped secure $15.9 million for the public housing
BENTON HARBOR, MI - On Tuesday, May 9th, Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) will join local officials for the official groundbreaking of the HOPE VI housing development in Benton Harbor. In 2004, Upton worked with local and state officials to secure $15.9 million in HOPE VI funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist in the construction of public housing. The HOPE VI grant was an integral part of the plan to revitalize the Benton Harbor community and a top priority found in the Governor's Task Force report and supported by the Citizens for Progressive Change.
