Internships

An internship with Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones' offices in Shaker Heights, Ohio and Washington, DC offers high school students, college students and college graduates the opportunity to learn about the duties and responsibilities of a Member of Congress and the role of congressional staff members. Interns must possess motivation, self-discipline, determination, organizational skills, communication skills and the most important qualification, the ability to work with individuals seeking the assistance of the congressional office and members of the staff.

In the District office, students have the opportunity to experience hands-on work and direct interaction with the constituents of the 11th Congressional District. Within an educational framework, they perform many of the same tasks carried out by staff. Interns assist in preparing for meetings with elected officials, constituents and organizations; researching data. They also serve as speakers at selected events and perform a variety administrative tasks.

The Washington DC office offers interns the chance to become involved in various aspects of the legislative process. Interns perform legislative research, write memoranda, assist the staff with special projects and administrative functions. These internships offer a hands-on experience in the heart of our country's seat of government, sharing the hallways with the many prominent national lawmakers in the nation as well as the opportunity to gain valuable experience from working directly with the Congresswoman.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) was established in 1976 as a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute. As envisioned by its founders, the CBCF's mission is to serve as the non-partisan policy oriented catalyst that educates future leaders and promotes collaboration among legislators, business leaders, minority-focused organizational leaders, and organized labor to effect positive and sustainable change in the African American community. To that end, the CBCF has worked to broaden and elevate the influence of African Americans in the political, legislative and public policy arenas.
