The Sixth District of Massachusetts includes 36 cities and towns. It encompasses much of Essex County, just north of Boston, stretching from Lynn, up the Atlantic coast to the New Hampshire border, west to Merrimac, and down through the heart of the Merrimack Valley and into a part of Middlesex County (see a full list of cities and towns). You will find some of the most historic and beautiful areas of Massachusetts in our District, from the spectacular beaches along the coast, to numerous cultural and historic sites both along the coast and inland.
The District also boasts an early industrial base in textile and leather. During
the 17th century this part of the country was home to some of the earliest
American heavy industry with the creation of the Saugus Iron Works. Today, the
District incorporates a growing industry in the computer and software fields.
The city of Lynn includes a General Electric jet engine plant. The Sixth
District also is the birthplace of the United States Navy and was once home to
many famous historical figures including Nathaniel Hawthorne and World War II
General, George Patton.
The District also features the other Cape of Massachusetts - Cape
Ann.
