CHAIRMAN LEWIS PRAISES LEADERSHIPS’ COMMITMENT TO COMPREHENSIVE EARMARK REFORM
|

April 27th, 2006 - -
Washington, D.C. – House appropriations committee chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) issued the following statement on the leaderships’ commitment to comprehensive earmark reform.
" I want to express my sincere gratitude to Speaker Hastert and Leader Boehner for their strong commitment and solemn pledge to not bring a conference report on lobbying reform to the House floor unless it includes comprehensive earmark reform. I am very proud of all of my Republican Members for their unity and passionate conviction that any reforms should affect earmarks wherever they exist. My committee has led by example in reforming earmarks by reducing both the number and dollars spent on Member projects.
No other entity in the Congress has done more to reform earmarks than the House Appropriations Committee and I look forward to working with my leadership and my Members to build on that record. The leaderships’ commitment ensures that the final version of earmark reform will provide the strongest and most comprehensive reform and further that no similar reforms will be implemented outside of the lobbying conference report."
